Easy Design Garden Features For Dummies
Looking at ideas you can use in your landscaping other than plants, we’re now going to take a look at some more elements that aren’t usually thought of as garden decorations or accents. Everyday elements can be decorative additions to your landscaping which can fill bare areas, create a feeling of space, and give your yard a more complete appearance.
While elements such as storage sheds or lights aren’t usually thought of as design elements, they can be. And a whole lot of others not considered here can be hand-crafted or found cheaply at garage sales and flea markets. Without further ado, here are a few more ideal and creative ways to make your landscaping ideas and garden areas more functional and inviting.
Garden buildings and Lean-tos: Such structures aren’t usually thought of as decoration or focal points. They’re created for storing and cleaning your garden tools, starting plants, etc. However, potters sheds and other buildings are more than functional; they may also be added as design elements that will complement your landscaping and your house.
Your garden shed can be added to compliment the architecture of your home. Lean-tos and garden sheds can have paint and trim which match the colors of your house or accent your garden color pallet. Add matching window boxes and you create a fulfilling sense of completion.
Outdoor lighting: Low-voltage lights can be extremely attractive along walkways and as decorative lights to highlight specimen trees, focal points, and a few other outstanding picture perfect landscaping features. Most important though, they may also add to your safety by lighting up possible problems and dark places. Low voltage lighting is generally an easy and safe do it yourself project. However, sometimes it can be in need of special wiring. In this case, you’ll want a qualified electrician. Be sure to use a qualified electrician or landscaping company trained in electrical installation if you are planning to have High voltage lights installed.
Berms: These are simply raised soil yard places. Surrounded with large boards, rock retaining walls, or free-standing, they are an attractive way by which you can create the perception or more space, a more three-dimensional site, in level spots. They are perfect for controlling erosion and may also be good for adding privacy while waiting for your plants to get big enough for private buffer height. Berms should fit well into your landscaping, recommended heights being from 1 1/2 to 2 feet above ground level.
So keep in mind that not all of your design has to be designed. Elements that you might not think to be design elements may help take up more space and cut down on the amount of space you have to design.
