Proper Care For Water Fountains
Having a water fountain is always a great addition to any indoor and outdoor space. Inside our homes, a wall fountain or even that little tabletop fountain on the corner profoundly affects the atmosphere around us, making a space more serene and relaxing. However, operating and running these water features require more than just adding water. Some of these maintenance needs are indicated below for the furtherance of their functionality.
Periodic cleaning is an essential element that would help keep your water fountain in its superior shape. This is appropriate for all kinds of fountains, regardless of the avenue where they would be placed. If a fountain isn’t cleaned for a long time, algae and dirt will eventually build up in the motor, which would cause it to run loudly, and the water will surely leave permanent marks on the surface of the fountain. Make sure to give your fountain a good wipe using cleaning products appropriate for fountains, and as much as possible change the water periodically and use water treatments.
Because water is the major life force of fountains, it is imperative that this element be added at regular intervals as evaporation causes immediate water loss. If you’re going to add water on your wall and tabletop fountains, use distilled water in place of regular tap water. Compared to tap water, distilled water has no mineral deposits and impurities that usually build up on the surface of fountains. But, if you can’t purchase distilled water all the time, you can still use tap water, only see to it that you use water treatment products to improve its quality.
Always remember that wherever water is, bacteria are present. You will know if bacteria are present in the water of your fountain if oily films begin to develop on the water surface. Aside from periodic water change, make sure to use UV lights to illumine the basin of your water feature especially wall mounted fountains. The low level of UV rays emitted by this light will hinder the growth of bacteria.
The water from wall and tabletop fountains are suppose to sound like little trickles of water cascading from a stream. However, if the water level is low, it would sound more like babbling water from a noisy water pump. To avoid this from happening, always make sure that the water basin of your fountain is full at all times. You can ensure this by filling the basin with water at the same time when you are going to water your plants; doing this will help you establish a routine that you won’t forget.
Lastly, keep your water fountain pump in good condition by permitting it to run constantly. Always flipping the on and off function of your fountain could eventually wear-off its motor, which can minimize its life span. If you’re worried about your electric consumption, what you can do is to turn your fountain off at night when and turn it on during the day. Doing this will permit the motor and pump to rest for longer hours.
Having a wall fountain could definitely perk up a room. For instance, wall mounted fountains can naturally enhance the atmosphere inside your living space, while tabletop fountains could make tables appear more inviting. However, if you wish to use their services for long, you may want to consider attending to their maintenance needs that includes periodic changing of water, regular cleaning of motors and water pumps just to name a few.
